Design, Implementation, and Performance Analysis of a Bluetooth-Based Smart Home Appliance Control System Using Arduino Microcontroller

This study presents the design, implementation, and performance analysis of a Bluetooth-based
smart home appliance control system using an Arduino microcontroller platform. The system integrates
an Arduino Uno, an HC-05 Bluetooth module, and relay circuits to enable wireless control of home
electrical appliances through a smartphone application. The primary goal of the system is to enhance user
convenience, safety, and energy efficiency by replacing traditional manual switches with a reliable, low
cost, and user-friendly automation solution. Experimental testing was conducted on multiple household
appliances, including lights and fans, to evaluate key performance parameters such as response time,
communication range, reliability, and power consumption. The results demonstrated an average response
time between 0.7 and 1.2 seconds, a stable Bluetooth communication range of approximately 10 meters,
and a command reliability rate of 97–100%, with minimal power consumption throughout operation. The
modular structure of the system supports scalability and easy integration with future Internet of Things
(IoT) technologies, expanding its potential for advanced home automation applications. Overall, the
research confirms that a Bluetooth-controlled Arduino-based system provides an effective, energy
efficient, and cost-efficient solution for modern smart home environments.
