Abstract

The textile industry has existed since the dawn of humanity. Textiles are tangible materials that
remain directly contact with the human body from birth until death. Historically, humans used clothing
primarily for protection; however, as the knowledge of fabric production advanced and various natural
fibers discovered, the variety of garments expanded. Consequently, clothing evolved beyond its initial
purpose of merely shielding against the elements and acquired new meaning.
The advent of the Industrial Revolution drastically reduced production costs and increased manufacturing
volumes within the textile and apparel sectors. Driven by the modern allure of fast fashion, garments now
produced in excessive quantities and marketed as necessities. Unfortunately, the shift in production and
consumption habits caused by fast fashion has resulted in severe environmental degradation. Numerous
pollutants generated at every stage of the garment lifecycle—before, during, and after production.
To address these issues and encourage a shift in shopping habits, this study focuses on the creation of a
capsule wardrobe. It presents a case study detailing all production stages of five timeless, interchangeable
garments designed specifically for the target audience: working women aged 25 to 45.
