Abstract

– The resistance characteristics of ships are one of the most important concepts in the hydrodynamic field. This characteristic is very important not only in calm water but also in waves since it is directly related to the ship's speed. Therefore, these characteristics should be determined accurately, especially in the design stage. In the present study, a program based on empirical formulas presented in the literature is developed to calculate the resistance characteristics of ships both in regular and irregular waves. The computed results show that the developed methodology is capable to represent the resistance characteristics of ships which have large CB values. Thus, the methodology can be useful, especially in the preliminary design stage.
