The Role of Digital Transformation on the Way to Environmental Sustainability in the Turkish Context
Keywords:
Digitalisation, environmental engineering, industrial transformation, sustainability, technological innovationsAbstract
Digital transformation refers to increased productivity in the production and service sectors
through the automation of industrial processes, the use of data analytics, and various technological
innovations. This process, which forms the basis of industrial transformation, is a critical issue that must
be addressed in terms of both its positive and negative aspects, particularly in relation to the point of its
environmental impacts. Although digitalisation in Turkey has rapidly increased in recent years, studies
assessing its potential impacts on sustainability and the environment are limited. However, a
comprehensive assessment is needed on this issue from many perspectives. This study examines the
current status of digitalisation in Turkey and its environmental impacts on industrial processes. In light of
the obtained data, environmental considerations and proposed solutions are presented when expanding
digital transformation processes. The aim of this study is to analyse the current status of the integration of
digital transformation and environmental sustainability from an environmental engineering perspective in
the Turkish context.
